Export seminars

Do you feel ready to export, but you are unsure of all the steps to take? The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), along with the Southern United States Trade Association (SUSTA), offer export education seminars statewide. These seminars feature presenters from FDACS and SUSTA who will discuss the export assistance offered by their organizations. They also feature speakers from financial lenders, shippers and freight forwarders, as well as representatives from foreign agricultural services and insurance companies.

Southern United States Trade Association (SUSTA)

The Southern United States Trade Association (SUSTA) is an organization that helps small businesses in the southern United States promote their American food and agriculture products to overseas markets. SUSTA is a non-profit organization funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Market Access Program. SUSTA works with officials from the departments of agriculture in the southern states of the United States to educate businesses and run their businesses. USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) partners with SUSTA and small businesses to share the costs of overseas marketing and promotion activities. SUSTA has two major support programs: Global Events and 50% CostShare.

In September 2018, the USDA launched a trade mitigation program aimed at helping farmers suffering damage from trade retaliation from foreign countries. SUSTA has received funding from this Agricultural Trade Promotion (ATP) so that agricultural businesses in the southern United States can also benefit from this funding.

  • Tropical Plant International Expo (TPIE): January of each year; Fort Lauderdale. TPIE, organized by the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA), is a horticultural trade event showcasing the latest trends in tropical foliage, flowers and plants.
  • Seafood Expo North America: March annually; Boston. Seafood Expo North America (formerly the International Boston Seafood Show) is the largest seafood trade show in North America. The exhibition features more than 1,000 exhibiting companies from over 40 countries.
  • ACDFL Congress and Trade Show: April each year; location varies. ACDFL’s annual convention and trade show welcomes 3,500 representatives from the entire fresh fruit and vegetable supply chain.
  • PMA Fresh Summit: October annually; location varies. With over 20,000 attendees, Fresh Summit can help you anticipate changes, identify emerging trends and take advantage of new opportunities.
  • SUSTA: SUSTA organizes trade shows and missions throughout the year in many foreign markets.
