New electronic platform to also ensure price transparency for fresh agricultural products

A new electronic platform will also pave the way for transparency in the pricing of fresh agricultural products in Cyprus, Philenews reported on Monday.

The platform will be set up jointly by the Agricultural Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Information Services Department of the Ministry of Innovation.

“This is a project that will strengthen the role of producer groups / organizations as well as all farmers because, through the platform, they will have the opportunity to monitor the progress of products entering the local market” , he also said.

“At the same time, information will be provided on production volume, demand and supply,” he added.

The platform will also improve decisions regarding daily changes in agricultural commodity prices, better planning and a reduction in unfair trade practices.

This objective will be achieved thanks to a new relevant bill which must be voted on and implemented soon.

Concretely, with the implementation of this platform, each farmer will be able to register his crops and have access to consolidated data on the volume of production by product, as well as data on the history of consumer demand on a weekly basis.

In addition, producers will be able to register all products entering or available to enter the market and issue invoices based on the platform’s unique code.

As part of the consolidation of procedures, all participants will have access to real-time information on the volumes available on the market, as well as the estimated daily demand.

The implementation of the project will start in 2022 and end in 2024.
