The above was stated by the Minister of Environment and Energy Costas Skrekas during a conference on “The water problem in Thessaly” organized by the Regional Union of Municipalities (PED) of Thessaly.

Mr. Skrekas spoke of the ministry’s actions on this issue, stressing that the first river basin management plans for all water bodies in the country have already been completed. At the same time, he referred to the measures regarding support for the agricultural economy, while referring to the initiative of the Ministry of Greece’s adaptation and the agricultural sector to climate change.

As underlined by the Minister, the actions include initiatives for the use of the water resources of the rivers of Thessaly to cover the water deficit of Thessaly, while he referred to ongoing projects and concern water systems. large-scale irrigation throughout the territory with a construction budget of 1.6 billion.

For his part, the Governor of Thessaly, Costas Agorastos, spoke of the projects that are being implemented throughout Thessaly, while he spoke of the need for a regional government so that projects can move forward faster and more efficiently. .

Regarding the case of Acheloos, the governor of Thessaly noted that “it benefits everyone and does not harm anyone”, while stressing the need for a new environmental permit.

“Acheloos and water is life. It’s clear. Do we want it or not? “Acheloos has to be done and it has to be done yesterday,” Mr Agorastos said.

Finally, the President of Thessaly, Thanassis Nasiakopoulos, spoke about the water problem in Thessaly, stressing the need to tackle the problem immediately with a specific framework and actions.
