PASIR MAS (Bernama): The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (Mafi) provided 120 tons of seized imported agricultural products worth RM 2.1 million as animal feed to departments and agencies from January to August of this year.

Deputy Minister II Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh said the contribution was distributed by the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) through the Mafi Prihatin program.

“The products seized were imported agricultural products which have undergone legal proceedings and have been dispossessed of their property for violations,” he told a press conference after a program to hand over animal feed to the Kelantan Maqis office in Rantau Panjang here Sunday September 5th. ).

Commenting on the program, Nik Zawawi said that 11 tons of animal products such as frozen chicken, meat and sausages worth RM87,000 have been distributed to departments and agencies in need.

“The contributions were distributed to the Taiping Zoo; the National Wildlife Rescue Center in Sungkai, Perak; the Royal Kelantan endurance team; and other relevant organizations.

“This was to ensure an adequate supply of animal feed to Taiping Zoo and the rescue center.

“Some items have also been used as feed materials for catfish as part of an inmate rehabilitation program by the Malaysian Prison Department,” he said.

He said the ministry, through Maqis, would continue to engage and enforce laws on imports of agricultural products, especially those involving chicken and meat. – Bernama
