Ukraine wants to expand access of agricultural products to Chinese market


Exports to China doubled last year, and Ukraine is keen to increase trade and develop its commodities.

“China is a key trading partner for Ukraine in the Asian region. At the end of 2020, the trade turnover between our countries increased by 20.5% to reach 15.4 billion dollars, of which exports doubled to reach 7.1 billion dollars. Half of Ukrainian exports to China are agricultural products and we are interested in increasing trade supplies and expanding commodities, ”said Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture – Trade representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka in a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China in Ukraine Fan Xianrong, informs the press service of the ministry.

The sides discussed cooperation between Ukraine and China in the fields of trade, investment and agriculture. The priorities for bilateral cooperation for 2021 were also outlined, in particular with regard to the prospects for holding meetings of bilateral sectoral cooperation bodies in the areas mentioned this year.

The meeting participants paid particular attention to topical issues of expanding access of Ukrainian agri-food products to the Chinese market.

In January-February 2021, the turnover of trade between Ukraine and China amounted to 2 billion 494.2 million (+ 18.4%); exports totaled $ 1 billion 092.8 million (+ 43.8%), imports – $ 1 billion 401.4 million (+ 4.1%).

The share of agrifood products in the total structure of Ukrainian exports to China was 53.1% ($ 579.8 million).
