ANNAPOLIS, Md.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 12, 2022–
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has released its new Draft 2022 Framework Plan Update, which illustrates the path to carbon neutrality by 2045. The draft framework plan is the first of its kind to designate nitrous oxide (N 2 O) emissions as a serious problem. climate threat and signals a significant shift towards developing broader and more effective strategies to address climate change.
“To achieve our climate goals, reducing all greenhouse gas emissions, including N 2 O, is of paramount importance,” said Thomas Spangler, executive chairman of CleanBay Renewables. “CARB’s attention to often overlooked N 2 O emissions in the new scoping plan, in addition to the focus on natural and working lands, sets a global precedent for increasing the focus on emissions of N 2 O in climate plans and policies in the future.”
N 2 O emissions are 300 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, destroy the ozone layer and can remain in the atmosphere for 100 years. Since 1980, human N 2 O emissions have increased by 30%, largely from sources such as fuel combustion, industrial processes, wastewater management and agriculture.
“CleanBay Renewables has long championed climate plans to include N2O emissions and we are working to provide immediate solutions to address this major climate threat,” said Donal Buckley, CEO of CleanBay Renewables. “We can only achieve our climate goals with a concerted effort on all fronts, and California’s draft framework serves as a catalyst for informed action on climate change around the world.”
CleanBay Renewable’s California subsidiary, AgLand Renewables, helps solve the pressing environmental and energy challenges facing California food and agricultural producers. By converting poultry litter into renewable fuel and controlled-release fertilizer, AgLand’s bioconversion facilities will significantly (1) help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, focusing on N 2 emissions O, (2) improve soil health, (3) mitigate impacts on water quality, and (4) generate full-time, paid employment in Central Valley communities.
The updated guidance plan is now open for a 45-day public review and will be presented to CARB at its June 23 meeting. After review, CARB staff intends to present the scoping plan to the Board for final approval in November 2022.
