Agriculture Minister Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto asserted that no government has allocated as much money and other resources to the agricultural sector as this current government
According to him, other sectors have not received much attention such as the agricultural sector in the past five months.
Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, speaking at Gbewa Palace, said: “In fact, I will say that the number of resources allocated to the agricultural sector over the past five years is such that if you compare it to the resources that have been allocated to the sector in the past, because no government has devoted so much public resources to agricultural development, ”he said.
Lauding the achievements of farmers and others in the agricultural sector, he noted that Ghana has become a food basket for West Africa due to their hard work.
He added that residents of neighboring towns travel to Ghana to purchase goods.
The agricultural minister also noted that several programs and interventions are underway to help farmers and inhabitants of the savannah area.
He cited the Savannah Zone Agricultural Productivity Improvement Project (SAPIP) as one of the projects to be implemented soon.
He is optimistic that the project will employ many young people in the region to stop the rising unemployment rate in the country.
