PM Urges Hau Giang Province to Turn Potential into Development Resources | Policy

Hau Giang (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked the Mekong Delta province to Hau Giang transform its resource potential and aspirations into practical and effective actions, and promote its internal strength for faster and more sustainable socio-economic development and better living conditions for local populations.

Working with the Standing Council of the Provincial Party Committee on July 17, Premier Chinh highlighted the advantages of Hau Giang such as strategic location, thick waterway system, vast area of ​​primary forest, rice production and a high tourist potential.

According to Provincial Party Committee Secretary Nghiem Xuan Thanh, last year the province had a regional gross domestic product (GDPR) growth of 3.08%, while the majority of its objectives set for the year have been achieved or exceeded.

During the year, Hau Giang ranked 38th out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide in terms of provincial competitiveness index (PCI), while it ranked 27th in the administrative reform index.

In the first six months of this year, Hau Giang recorded an economic growth rate of 11 percent, the highest among regional localities and ranking 8th among cities and provinces nationwide. Its collection of the State budget reached 68.8% of its objective for the whole of the year.

Premier Chinh pointed to a number of shortcomings in the province, including lack of resources for strategic infrastructure development and slow economic structure change.

He argued that along with implementing resolutions on socio-economic development, Hau Giang should optimize its autonomy and potential, especially in human resources, natural conditions, historical tradition and culture, while changing its state of mind in the design and implementation of planning, and accelerating economic structure transition.

At the same time, it is necessary to continue to effectively control the COVID-19 pandemic, while devising policies for mobilizing resources for development and strengthening public-private partnership, Prime Minister Chinh said.

He stressed the need to apply measures to increase sources of income in order to increase the collection of the state budget, while strengthening the restructuring of the agricultural sector, paying more attention to the protection of the environment and the response to climate change.

The prime minister also urged Hau Giang to continue accelerating administrative reform, improving the business and investment environment, and stepping up dialogue with local businesses to help them deal with difficulties.

During the meeting, Hau Giang presented a number of proposals to the prime minister and central ministries and agencies, including upgrading the 61C national road linking Hau Giang and Can Tho city, and modifying the use of parts of the Lung Long area. Hoang Nature Reserve.

Premier Chinh pointed out that the reserve is an invaluable asset of the locality and the region, so Hau Giang should be careful in considering the use of the area.

During his trip to Hau Giang, Premier Chinh and his entourage offered incense to heroic martyrs at the provincial martyrs’ cemetery and visited heroic Vietnamese mothers in the province./.
