Uganda uses 2nd China-Africa Trade Expo to showcase agricultural products, attract tourists and investment


Like the 2sd China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo is held in Changsha City, Hunan Province (central China), Uganda takes the opportunity to showcase its agricultural products and attract investors in tourism and other areas of the country.

The three-day Expo, which is said to have attracted over 9,000 attendees in a hybrid event that also had online attendance, brought together a number of African countries, including Uganda, from September 26-28, 2021 .

The theme of the Expo is “New Start, New Opportunities, New Achievement”. Uganda and several African countries will have the opportunity to present information on their investment environment, trade policies, key products and tourism to potential Chinese investors, to forge new business partnerships. and joint ventures.

Hon. General Katumba WAMALA, Minister of Works and Transport will virtually deliver a speech at the opening ceremony on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Uganda.

The Ugandan Embassy in Beijing and Consulate in Guangzhou have an exhibition stand to showcase a variety of Ugandan products to potential Chinese investors and market its tourism and investment opportunities.

The biennial event is organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Hunan Province.

The 1st China-Africa Economic and Trade Exhibition (CAETE) was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jin Ping at the 2018 Beijing Summit of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum as a platform for both sides to deepen economic cooperation and commercial.

The first exhibition was held in June 2019. HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the President of the Republic of Uganda attended and a total of ten (10) agreements were signed in the fields of energy, mining, trade and investment, tourism, agriculture, infrastructure development to name a few.

Participants will be able to find African products, brands and five dedicated showcases: the Coffee Exhibition Space; Nuts exhibition area; Cocoa exhibition area; Agricultural and secondary products exhibition area and export exhibition area to Africa. In addition, twenty-two (22) events, including forums and business matchmaking activities, will be organized.

The online audience will have access to “Cloud Conferences” with live webcasts; 2D or 3D “Cloud Exhibitions” and “Cloud Transactions” which will allow visitors to make purchases via e-commerce. Goods worth 85 million yuan ($ 13.1 million) for export and about 100 types of African products for import are now available on Kilimall and KiliSelect, two e-commerce platforms. Around 386 projects are expected to be booked through the Expo platform.
